Book Fiesta!

Book Fiesta by Pat Mora is a 2020 illustrator award winner of The Pura Belpre Award. It is a colorful and beautifully written bi-lingual children's book that celebrates Children's Day/Book Day and encourages students to pick up a book and read! I used to teach at a school with a high ELL population. I found this book when I was searching for books to bring more diversity into my classroom library. This book was a new release on the Amazon charts and I purchased it because of its great reviews. This book is so much fun for students to read and my EL students delighted in hearing their native language during our class read alouds. This book was great at fostering discussions with students about traditions and customs of other cultures, how important reading is, and introducing new and rich vocabulary.

  1. Julie,

After reading your post, I went and read Book Fiesta by Pat Mora. I think that this book would be a great read-aloud in my classroom, as I have several ELL students in my classroom. I think it is a wonderful story to teach cultures and traditions of the students in my classroom. I will be utilizing this in my classroom to add some diversity to my classroom library. Thank you for sharing and great job!
